Overview
Book Guru is owned and operated by Nerdy Executive Labs Inc. In this policy, "Book Guru," "we," "us," and "our" refer to Nerdy Executive Labs Inc. and the Book Guru app and service.
Book Guru is a reading companion that helps you manage your library, understand your taste, scan bookshelves, rate books, keep notes, join book circles, and receive personalized recommendations.
We collect the information needed to provide those features, keep your account secure, sync your data across devices, and improve recommendation quality. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your reading data for cross-app advertising tracking.
Information You Provide
Account information may include your name, email address, authentication provider identifiers, and preferences such as email or reminder settings.
Reading information may include books in your library, statuses, ratings, progress, notes, taste preferences, recommendation feedback, declined or saved recommendations, circles, invites, and book club activity you choose to create.
Camera and photo input may include bookshelf photos or camera scans used to identify books. Photos are processed only for book recognition and library features; avoid scanning images that contain private information you do not want processed.
Support and deletion requests may include information you provide when requesting help, exporting data, or requesting account deletion.
Information Collected Automatically
The app may process basic technical information needed for app functionality, security, diagnostics, sync, subscriptions, and service reliability.
Book Guru may store recommendation history, feedback, and generated model signals so the recommendation engine can avoid repeats and improve over time.
Apple may process purchase and subscription information through App Store systems. Book Guru receives subscription status needed to unlock premium features, but does not receive your full payment card details.
How We Use Information
We use your information to authenticate you, sync your library, generate fit scores and recommendations, recognize scanned books, show book details, provide circles and sharing features, manage subscriptions, send reminders or emails you opt into, prevent abuse, debug issues, and process data export or deletion requests.
AI features may use your taste profile, library, ratings, notes, book metadata, and feedback to produce summaries, fit explanations, and recommendations. Generated output can be imperfect, so use it as guidance rather than a guarantee.
Sharing and Service Providers
We use service providers to operate the app, including authentication and database services, AI providers, book data sources, Apple App Store services, and Amazon affiliate links. These providers process information only as needed for their services.
We require service providers that process user information for Book Guru to protect that information in a manner consistent with this policy and applicable privacy requirements.
When you open external retailer or book-source links, those third-party sites may collect information under their own policies. Book Guru is not responsible for third-party websites or stores.
If you join or create a circle, information you choose to share with that circle may be visible to other circle members according to the circle's settings.
Your Choices
You can edit taste preferences, library entries, ratings, notes, reminder settings, and email preferences in the app.
You can export your reading data, clear declined recommendations, or request account deletion from Profile > Settings > Data & Privacy.
You can disable camera, photo library, or notification permissions from iOS Settings. Some features may not work without those permissions.
Retention and Security
We keep account and reading data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain security.
We use technical and organizational safeguards such as authenticated access and database row-level security. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we design the app to limit collection and protect user data.
Children
Book Guru is not intended for children under 13. Do not create an account or submit personal information if you are under 13.
Changes and Contact
We may update this policy as Book Guru changes. If changes are material, we will update the effective date and provide notice where appropriate.
